Sometimes things can be fixed…

Other times, you’re better off scrapping it entirely, and starting again.

This can certainly be true when it comes to websites.

It can often appear to be easier, quicker and cheaper to just ‘tweak’ the website you already have.

You know – change a colour here, fix a picture there and try to plug in a separate software program to expand your functionality.

(Even when that add-on doesn’t fit seamlessly into your website from a user perspective and potentially loses you sales!).

And yet, it really isn’t. It isn’t easier. Or quicker. Nor cheaper at all.

There’s a really good chance that you’ll simply waste precious time and money trying to fix things on an older website – that wouldn’t even be a problem at all if you were starting with something built brand new with current technology.

And that brand new website might actually make the ‘fixing’ process far more efficient and cost-effective, while also giving you a much better result that ultimately – really helps your business to grow to the level you desire.

You might need a new website if your current website:

➡️Has out of date branding and styling – so it’s not accurately reflecting your business as it is right now.
➡️Is drastically out of date content-wise.
➡️Is on a platform that reduces your ability to add new and important functionality – or if it has functionality doesn’t work nicely or seamlessly for your users (the quicker and easier it is to use, the more conversions you’ll get).
➡️Has poor SEO results and is on a platform where you can’t manage your SEO correctly – OR there are so many SEO fixes on your current template that you might as well upgrade to a new one that’s already optimised.
➡️Suffers from a poor conversion rate (aka not enough people are buying, booking or enquiring).

What platform makes a good website?

For service-based businesses you’ll need a WordPress based website with either a current Divi or Avada template (and their corresponding page building software).

For eCommerce businesses you’ll either want to go for WordPress + WooCommerce OR Shopify or BigCommerce.

WordPress has the advantage of full control and the ability to add in almost limitless functionality whenever you need – so it grows with your business. It’s also easier to find developers who can help you with your website in future as its so universal.

However, Shopify and BigCommerce are an easier to manage option for eCommerce if you need something really easy to use and manage. Just keep in mind, that while these platforms are powerful, THEY own your website. To switch over to WordPress later, you’d need to start from scratch.

Is a new website worth it?

Yes. Your website is basically the most important channel in your business. How good it is – and looks and feels to your customers or clients – has a direct impact on whether you make any sales.

Just don’t forget to think about your copywriting and SEO when you’re setting it up.

And if you’re not tech or website savvy – it’s not generally a great idea to do it yourself. Hiring someone who knows their stuff can make the difference between a website that sits there and does not much and a GREAT website that draws in the traffic and converts those buyers.
